Gimlet
The Gimlet is one of the most timeless gin cocktails. Traditionally mixed with lime cordial, our New Zealand twist uses fresh lime juice and tonic water for a sharper, more refreshing flavour. It’s a simple yet elegant addition to your list of easy gin cocktails — and a great way to showcase the smooth character of Humdinger Dry Gin.

Flavour Profile
Crisp and zesty with a refreshing balance of juniper, citrus, and gentle tonic bitterness. This variation of the classic Gimlet is vibrant and clean, finishing smooth and dry.
A Little History
The Gimlet dates back to the late 19th century when British sailors combined lime juice with gin to ward off scurvy. Traditionally made with sweetened cordial, today’s versions often use fresh lime for a brighter profile. Our recipe leans into that freshness while adding tonic — giving it a distinctly NZ gin cocktail twist.
Variations
- Classic Gimlet: Swap the tonic water for lime cordial and serve straight up for a more traditional style.
- Cucumber Gimlet: Muddle fresh cucumber slices before adding ice for a crisp, cooling twist.
- Herbal Gimlet: Add a few basil or mint leaves before shaking to bring out fresh herbal notes.
- Barrel-Aged Gimlet: Use Humdinger Bourbon Barrel Aged Gin for added vanilla, oak, and spice complexity.
- Pink Gimlet: Use Humdinger Pink Gin and garnish with fresh berries for a colourful, fruit-led variation.
Serving Tip
Serve in a rocks glass for casual sipping, or in a stemmed cocktail glass for a more elegant presentation. For a traditional take, swap tonic water for lime cordial.
