Fundraising & Liquor Laws
There are some legal requirements to be aware of when using alcohol in fundraising activities in New Zealand.
Under the Gambling Act, alcohol cannot be offered as a prize in activities where the winner is determined by chance, such as raffles, sweepstakes, or prize draws.
Alcohol may be awarded as a prize in competitions where the outcome is determined by skill or performance, such as sporting tournaments or quizzes.
If alcohol is being sold as part of a fundraising event (for example through an auction), the event may require an appropriate alcohol licence. Organisers should check the requirements with their local council before the event.
Because of these legal requirements, we are generally unable to provide alcohol for raffles or other games of chance.
